DesignDrafter
SEO and Content Optimization for an AI SaaS Platform in the AEC Industry

DesignDrafter is an AI-powered architecture and MEP design platform for the AEC industry, covering AI floor plan generation, engineering calculations, CAD-to-Revit automation, and quantity takeoffs. As a new product in a technical category, it needed to be discoverable by the professionals searching for exactly these capabilities.
The engagement focused on SEO and content optimization: building a content engine of high-intent technical guides, optimizing pages to rank, and establishing topical authority across the MEP, BIM, and AI floor plan topics its audience searches for. The goal was to turn organic search into DesignDrafter's primary, compounding acquisition channel.
The Challenge
Ranking a new SaaS site in a technical, competitive niche is a long game with several hurdles.
A new domain with low authority
DesignDrafter was building organic visibility close to the ground up, with a modest authority score and a limited backlink profile, competing against established AEC and software publishers.
Highly technical, specific search intent
The audience searches for precise terms like "electrical load calculation for residential building," "cad to bim," and "ai floor plan generator." Winning these requires genuinely useful, expert-level content, not thin marketing pages.
Heavy reliance on branded search
Early traffic skewed toward branded queries. To grow, the site needed to win non-branded, high-intent searches from people who did not yet know the brand.
A changing search landscape
Discovery is shifting toward AI assistants. Beyond ranking on Google, the site needed to start appearing in answers from ChatGPT, Gemini, and AI overviews.
The Objective
The program was guided by clear goals.
Make organic search the site's largest acquisition channel
Build topical authority across MEP, BIM, and AI design themes
Grow non-branded, high-intent visibility beyond branded search
Improve rankings and impressions for target keywords
Establish early presence in AI-assistant search results through Answer Engine Optimization (AEO)
Match content to real buyer queries so AI platforms cite DesignDrafter as the answer
Strengthen domain authority through content and links
The Solution
The solution paired a consistent technical-content engine with disciplined on-page SEO and an emerging AI-search focus.
A high-intent content engine
We built long-form, genuinely useful technical guides mapped to what AEC professionals search for, covering electrical load calculation, AI floor plan generators, CAD-to-Revit conversion, quantity takeoff automation, HVAC design, and Revit vs AutoCAD comparisons. Output was consistent and substantial: in July 2026 alone, 13 new blog articles and 2 new commercial pages (Product Manufacturers Solution and Pricing) were published.
On-page optimization for rankings
Pages were optimized around target keywords with proper titles, headings, structure, and internal linking, concentrating link equity on the strongest entry points such as the electrical load calculation and AI floor plan generator guides.
Non-branded keyword targeting
The strategy deliberately expanded beyond branded terms toward high-intent, lower-difficulty keywords (for example "cad to bim," "mepfs meaning in construction," "ai floor plan generator") where the site could realistically move from page 2 or 3 into the top 10.
Topical authority and link building
By clustering content around MEP, BIM, and AI design themes and building referring domains, the program grew the site's authority and its footprint of ranking keywords across markets.
Answer Engine Optimization (AEO) for AI platforms
Alongside traditional SEO, we ran a dedicated Answer Engine Optimization (AEO) effort to make DesignDrafter rank and get cited inside AI platforms such as ChatGPT, Gemini, and Google AI Mode, where a growing share of AEC buyers now start their research. The focus was on matching real buyer queries: we mapped the questions professionals actually ask an AI assistant (for example "how to calculate electrical load for a building," "best AI floor plan generator," "how to convert CAD to Revit") and structured content to answer them directly and quotably.
Tactically, this meant writing clear, self-contained answers, using question-led headings and structured formatting, adding definitions and step-by-step explanations that AI models can extract, and reinforcing topical authority so the platforms treat DesignDrafter as a credible source. The aim was not just to rank a blue link on Google, but to be the answer the AI surfaces when a buyer asks their question.
The Impact
The program made organic search DesignDrafter's leading growth channel and built a compounding library of ranking technical content, while opening an early foothold in AI-assistant search.
Organic became the primary channel
In July 2026, Organic Search was the largest traffic channel at 1,354 sessions, 63.5% of all site traffic, with organic also driving the majority of site events. Across the wider 90-day window (5 June to 2 September 2026), the site drew roughly 3.9K active users, with google organic the single largest source at about 1.7K users and 2.5K sessions.

Search visibility scaled
Over the three-month Search Console window, the site recorded around 1.69K clicks and 125K impressions at an average position of 10.6, sitting right at the edge of page one. Within July alone, Search Console logged 650 clicks and 39K impressions at a 1.7% CTR.

Content drove the results
The published guides became the site's strongest organic entry points. The homepage, the electrical load calculation guide, and the top-5 AI floor plan generators guide led on clicks, proving that the technical-content strategy was directly responsible for organic growth.
Authority and reach grew
By the end of July, SEMrush recorded 136 organic keywords worldwide, an Authority Score of 7, 124 referring domains, and 262 backlinks, with India the top market (292 clicks) followed by the US and UAE.

Early AI-search foothold from AEO
The Answer Engine Optimization work produced early, measurable results: the site earned 14 mentions across AI platforms (ChatGPT, Gemini, and AI Mode) and began receiving referral sessions from AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Gemini, and NotebookLM. By structuring content to match real buyer queries, DesignDrafter started showing up as a cited answer inside the AI tools its audience now uses to research, an early foothold in the next generation of search.

Conclusion
This engagement shows how a consistent SEO and content optimization program can turn organic search into a new SaaS product's primary growth channel. By publishing high-intent technical guides, optimizing them to rank, targeting non-branded keywords, and building topical authority and links, DesignDrafter made organic its largest channel at 63.5% of traffic, scaled to 1.69K clicks and 125K impressions at an average position of 10.6, and secured an early foothold in AI-assistant search, all built on a content engine designed to compound over time.
